The 2023–24 Los Angeles Lakers season is the 77th season of the franchise, its 76th season in the National Basketball Association (NBA), its 64th season in Los Angeles, and its 25th season playing home games at Crypto.com Arena. This is the Lakers' second season with Darvin Ham as head coach.
Prior to the start of the season, LeBron James announced that he would switch his jersey number back to #23 after wearing #6 (which he also wore with the Miami Heat) the previous two seasons. On August 24, 2023, the Lakers announced that a statue of Kobe Bryant would be unveiled in front of Crypto.com Arena on February 8, 2024.
The Lakers held a perfect 7–0 record in the inaugural In-Season Tournament, and on December 9th, the Lakers won the inaugural NBA Cup against the Indiana Pacers. During their In-Season Tournament run, the Lakers were 5th in the Western Conference, but they struggled after the In-Season Tournament concluded as they lost seven of their next ten games.

2023–24 season schedule |
In-Season Tournament
This will be the first regular season where all the NBA teams will compete in a mid-season tournament setting due to the implementation of the 2023 NBA In-Season Tournament.[4][5] During the in-season tournament period, the Lakers will compete in Group A of the Western Conference, which will include the Memphis Grizzlies, the long-time rivaling Phoenix Suns, the Utah Jazz, and the Portland Trail Blazers. After a close 122–119 comeback win over the Suns in their first ever In-Season Tournament game, the Lakers provided more convincing wins over the Grizzlies, Trail Blazers, and Jazz, with all of those victories being won by at least 12 points. With the Lakers winning all four of their In-Season Tournament games, they advanced into the knockout tournament rounds of the In-Season Tournament in December. Not only that, but with their blowout wins over the Grizzlies and Jazz, the Lakers earned home-court advantage and will play against the Wild Card winner of the Western Conference, which became the Phoenix Suns from Group A, on December 5 at the Crypto.com Arena. This now became the third match between the two teams in the regular season, with the Lakers already beating the Suns twice beforehand, and it will also become both teams' 81st confirmed game of the regular season.
