Glensburg Town Planners is a professional town planning firm based in Johannesburg and a subsidiary of Glensburg. The town planning firm was established in 2019 following the enactment of new town planning legislation in South Africa, SPLUMA.[1][2]

History

Prior to rebranding as Glensburg Town Planners, the African Planning Association was formed in 2006 following resolutions of the first Planning Africa Conference in September 2002 held in Durban, South Africa.[3] Its formation combined representatives from UN-HABITAT, Commonwealth Association of Planners, and South African Planning Institute.[3] It sought to address gaps in the practice of planning in Africa as a rapidly urbanizing region.[4] In 2019, following the publication of the State of Planning in Africa report,[5] the African Urban Community of Practice (AUCOP) and the African Planning Association gave way to the African Planning Society.
