Bennani is one of the prominent Moroccan families of the influential "Fassi" elite of Fez, Morocco. It is considered, alongside other "Fassi" families, as the elite of Morocco. The Bennani family migrated to Morocco as late as 1666 from Andalusia, Spain, around the time of the Spanish Inquisition.
Bennani means "my son" in Hebrew, from בן (ben) meaning "son" and אני (ani) meaning "I, me". This is a Moroccan family of Jewish origin who converted to Islam.
