Menjor Multipurpose Research Centre and Unity Park, shortly known as MMRC and Unity Park, is a garden, museum, recreation park and research centre for culture of different ethnic and religious groups of Manipur, with a special focus on the Meitei culture. It is located in Khangabok town in Thoubal district of Manipur. It houses a temple of Pakhangba of traditional Meitei religion (Sanamahism), a Hindu temple, a Buddhist temple, a church and a mosque, promoting communal harmony.[1][2]
Features
The MMRC and Unity Park was constructed by educationalist Kh. Menjor Mangang. It is a multi-dimensional research centre (MMRC), tourist destination as well as recreation park.[3]
About his creation, Mangang said:
"I am planning to learn more from the other parks in India and other neighboring countries which can be of help economically and socially in our society. I would like to provide the best facilities to the visitors. And also, I want all the visitors to be equally treated and make them feel at ease."[4]
It also displays the traditional lifestyles of the ancient Meiteis. Among the numerous sculptures being showcased, the statues of Lourembam Khongnangthaba along with six other divine maichous are considered to be a rare work of art.[5]
Hosting events
2023
In April 2023, the MMRC and Unity Park hosted a science exhibition organised by Centre For Rural Empowerment and Development Organisation (CREDO), Shikhong Keithel, under the sponsorship of National Council for Science and Technology Communication (NCSTC Division), Ministry of Science & Technology, Government of India, to give scientific awareness to students of Scheduled Castes and Scheduled Tribes of Ukhrul and Thoubal districts of Manipur.[6][7][8]
2022
69th All India Co-operative Week 2022
In November 2022, the MMRC and Unity Park hosted the 69th All India Co-operative Week 2022, organized by the Manipur State Cooperative Union (MSCU), Imphal, along with the cooperative societies of Kakching district and Thoubal district, under the themes, "India at 75: Growth of cooperatives and Future Ahead" and "Cooperatives for Youth, Women, Weaker Sections and Health".[9]
Formation of the Thoubal District Chamber of Commerce and Industry (TDCCI)
In September 2022, the MMRC and Unity Park hosted a grand meeting which holds the formation of a full-fledged Thoubal District Chamber of Commerce and Industry (TDCCI), to improve trades and commerce in Thoubal district.[10]
Thabak Keithel
In July 2022, the MMRC and Unity Park hosted an online service delivery platform launching program of the "Thabak Keithel", organised by the Sajik Thaba Management Private limited, Thoubal Athokpam, to provide professional job opportunities.[11]
Campaign against drugs and alcohol
In June 2022, the MMRC and Unity Park hosted a launching event of a massive level campaign against drugs and alcohol under the banner "Mayai Kaba Nisha Gi Maiyokta Changsinba Khongjang", organised by the "Poirei Leimarol Meira Paibi Apunba Manipur", the "All Manipur United Clubs' Organisation (AMUCO)", the "Manipuri Students' Federation (MSF)" and the "All Manipur Women's Voluntary Association (AMWOVA)".[12]
Financial literacy awareness programme
In April 2022, the MMRC and Unity Park hosted a financial literacy awareness programme, organised by the Manipur State Co-Operative Bank in collaboration with National Bank for Agriculture and Rural Development (NABARD).[13][14]

2nd CSDO Craft Bazar
In December 2021, the MMRC Unity Park hosted the 2nd CSDO Craft Bazar for 10 days organised by the collaboration between the Office of the Development Commissioner (Handicrafts), Government of India and the Crafts & Social Development Organisation (CSDO), Kongba Makha Nandeibam Leikai.[15]
2019
80th Nupi Lan Memorial Day-2019
In December 2019, the MMRC and Unity Park hosted the 80th Nupi Lan Memorial Day-2019 as one of the venues for the celebration of the event in the Thoubal district. Commemorating the historical event of the Nupi Lan, floral tributes were offered to the statues of the women who took part in the event.[16]
Banana fibre extraction awareness cum training programme
In November 2019, the MMRC and Unity Park hosted an awareness cum training programme on banana fibre extraction, organised by the Mahila Weaver's Cell (MWC), BJP Manipur Pradesh and Directorate of Handloom and Textile, in association with the Blooming Foundation, Khangabok.[17]
Tribute to Sapam Robinhood
In September 2019, the MMRC and Unity Park hosted a floral tribute paying ceremony, dedicated to Sapam Robinhood (Meitei: ꯁꯥꯄꯝ ꯔꯣꯕꯤꯟꯍꯨꯗ), a martyr of a 2015 social movement to implement the Inner Line Permit in Manipur, on his 4th cremation day.[18]
Library Day (127th Birth Anniversary of S. R. Ranganathan)
In August 2019, the MMRC and Unity Park hosted a Library Day, organized jointly by the Manipur Library Association (MALA) and the Blooming Foundation, participated by 300 students, youth leaders, academicians, teachers and public leaders in the event, in connection with the 127th Birth Anniversary of Dr S. R. Ranganathan, father of Indian Library Movement in India.[19]
Players' Day
In February 2019, the MMRC and Unity Park and the "All Manipur Mukna Association (AMMA)" organised a "Players' Day" for the appreciation and the recognition of the players of the State.[20]
290th commemorative event of the Puya Meithaba
In January 2019, the MMRC and Unity Park hosted the 290th commemorative event of the Puya Meithaba, organised by the "International Observation Committee On Puya Meithaba (ICOP)", Kangleipak, on the theme "Remember, Review and Revive for Love, Peace and Integrity", attended by Meidingu Leishemba Sanajaoba as a chief guest.[21]

In April 2018, the MMRC Unity Park hosted the 4th quiz competition for the ancient history of Manipur, conducted by the Epu Taret Ningshing Lup Kangleipak.[22]
2017
Nupi Lal Ningshing Thouram
In December 2017, the MMRC and Unity Park hosted a Nupi Lal Ningshing Thouram (Meitei for 'Commemoration event of Nupi Lan'), attended by Thongam Biswajit Singh, Thokchom Radheshyam Singh, Paonam Brojen. In the event, Biswajit and Radheshyam unveiled a statue dedicated to the Nupi Lan (Meitei: ꯅꯨꯄꯤ ꯂꯥꯟ) inside the park.[23][24]
Foundation day of the Self Employed Finance Investment (SEFI)
In October 2017, the MMRC and Unity Park hosted the 3rd foundation day of the Self Employed Finance Investment (SEFI), Thoubal head office, which was established with the primary objective to give loans at low interest rate to unemployed or jobless people for their commercial purposes.[25]
Hijam Irawat remembrance month
In September 2017, the MMRC and Unity Park was one of the many places in Manipur that hosted the event of Hijam Irawat remembrance month, organised by the Patriotic Writers Forum Manipur, by paying floral tributes to the statues dedicated to Hijam Irabot.[26]
Birthday anniversary to Naoriya Phullo
In August 2017, the MMRC and Unity Park hosted an anniversary to the 130th birthday of Naoriya Phullo, organised by the "Meitei/Meetei Enaat Saktam Kanba Lup, Kangleipak" (Meitei: ꯃꯩꯇꯩ/ꯃꯤꯇꯩ ꯏꯅꯥꯠ ꯁꯛꯇꯝ ꯀꯟꯕ ꯂꯨꯞ, ꯀꯪꯂꯩꯄꯥꯛ). Thokchom Radheshyam Singh, the then Education Minister of the Manipur Government, attended the event as a dignitary. He unveiled the statue of Phundrei (Meitei: ꯂꯥꯏꯅꯤꯡꯍꯜ ꯅꯥꯎꯔꯤꯌꯥ ꯐꯨꯜꯂꯣ ꯐꯨꯟꯗ꯭ꯔꯩ) and also hoisted the seven-coloured flag of Meitei culture. In the event, an official logo of the MMRC and Unity Park was published. Besides that, a memoir named “Laininghal Phundrei (Phullo) Gi Mapok 130 Suba Samlakpa Wari Ningsing Chefong” (Meitei: ꯂꯥꯏꯅꯤꯡꯍꯜ ꯐꯨꯟꯗ꯭ꯔꯩ (ꯐꯨꯜꯂꯣ) ꯒꯤ ꯃꯄꯣꯛ ꯱꯳꯰ ꯁꯨꯕ ꯁꯝꯂꯛꯄ ꯋꯥꯔꯤ ꯅꯤꯡꯁꯤꯡ ꯆꯦꯐꯣꯡ), authored by H Tomchou, was published by the dignitaries.[27]
Lions Clubs International centenary celebration
In February 2017, the MMRC and Unity Park hosted a centenary celebration for the Thoubal branch of the Lions Clubs International. The club gifted the custom made umbrellas, which highlighted the works of the club, to the MMRC and Unity Park as well as to the people of the region.[28]
Singju festival
In January 2017, the MMRC and Unity Park hosted a twelve days-2nd Singju festival 2017, organized by the Singju Festival Committee under the supervision of Singju Yokhatpa Lup (SAYOL), opening 150 stalls, mostly selling Singju (Meitei: ꯁꯤꯡꯖꯨ) and handicraft products.[29][30]
The MMRC Unity Park was the end point of a Singju marathon race organized as a part of the 2nd Singju festival 2017 by Singju Yokhatpa Lup, participated by over 100 runners, beginning from Kakching Lamkhai in Kakching district as its start point.[31]
2016
Celebration of 70th year of Independence
On 22 August 2016, the MMRC and Unity Park hosted a Tiranga Yatra (English: Celebration of 70th year of Independence), organized by the Nehru Yuva Kendra (NYK), Thoubal, under the aegis of the Ministry of Youth Affairs & Sports, Government of India, participated by 1000 students.[32]
25th Meitei language day
On 20 August 2016, the MMRC and Unity Park hosted a celebration event of the 25th Meitei language day (formally called Manipuri language day), organised by the Patriotic Writers' Forum, Manipur, commemorating the historic inclusion of Meitei language (officially called Manipuri) in the Eighth Schedule to the Constitution of India.[33]
Manipur Sahitya Samiti Awards, 2015
In May 2016, the MMRC and Unity Park hosted an awards ceremony for the "Manipur Sahitya Samiti Award, 2015" organized by Manipur Sahitya Samiti (MSS).[34]

Snow Queen beauty pageant screening
In December 2015, the MMRC and Unity Park hosted a screening program for the Snow Queen beauty pageant for the year 2015, which was conducted under the theme "To develop personality & talent" for girls between 9 and 13 years of age, being attended by Mr International India (Haley Leithangbam), Miss Manipur 2006 (Oinam Ongbi Surmala Devi) and model (Sunilkumar Naosekpam) as the jury members of the screening event.[35]
Meitei language day celebration
In August 2015, the MMRC and Unity Park was one of the places where Meitei language day (Manipuri language day) was celebrated. It was organised by the Patriotic Writer's Forum Manipur and the KM Blooming Higher Secondary School.[36] The event also included poetry recitation and poetry writing competition on the themes, "Imarol" (Meitei for 'Mother language') and "Indigenous people".[37]
International Day of Yoga
In June 2015, the MMRC and Unity Park hosted the International Day of Yoga, organised jointly by the Nehru Yuva Kendra (NYK), Thoubal, along with the women's organizations, students, Meira Paibis, self-help groups, members of Panchayat Raj institutions and Manipur Government officials, showcasing the demonstrations of Yogic exercises, Yuva Kriti and youth formal social gatherings.[38]
State level legal literacy cum awareness campaign
In March 2015, the MMRC and Unity Park hosted a one day State level legal literacy cum awareness campaign, organised by the Manipur State Legal Services Authority (MSLSA), the Thoubal District Legal Services Authority and the Thoubal District Bar Association.[39]
2014
In November 2014, the MMRC and Unity Park hosted a one day discussion symposium, on the theme "Unification Of Society Through Culture", which was organised by the United Peoples' Administrative Council (UPACO) and the KM Blooming Association.[40]
