Maring people, are a Tibeto-Burman ethnic group of Northeast Indian state of Manipur.[2] They live in the Chandel district along the north border and in the Tengnoupal district.[3] They speak the Maring language belonging to the Northwestern Kuki-Chin group (or the 'Old Kuki' group).[4] However, the Marings identify with the Naga people.[5] The Marings and other 'old Kukis' do not have a system of hereditary chiefs.[6]
