At the centre of the Eta Carinae Nebula lies Eta Carinae, one of the most massive and luminous stars known. The nebula is considerably larger and somewhat brighter than the more famous Orion Nebula, and is the site of active star formation. It is easily visible from the Southern Hemisphere.
