- 1836 - Charles Darwin after the second voyage of the HMS Beagle, finally returned to his family home in Shrewsbury, England.
- 1905 - Henry Fairfield Osborn described the new genera and species of Cretaceous carnivorous theropod dinosaurs Tyrannosaurus rex, Dynamosaurus imperiosus, and Albertosaurus sarcophagus. D. imperiosus is now considered a junior synonym of T. rex, however.
