St. Peter's Cathedral at Schleswig is one of the most important historic buildings in Schleswig-Holstein. It is the seat of the Bishop of Schleswig in the North Elbe Evangelical-Lutheran Church.
In 850 the missionary church was built in Haithabu. In the years 947/49 Otto I created three dioceses on the Jutland Peninsula: Ripen and Schleswig in 947, and Aarhus in 948.
