Two DM&E locomotives in Illinois

Dakota, Minnesota and Eastern Railroad (DM&E) locomotives 4004 City of Dodge Center and 4000 City of St. Lawrence, both EMD GP40s, rest between jobs at Davis Junction, Illinois, in May 2008. In September 2007 it was announced that Canadian Pacific Railway (CP) would acquire the DM&E upon approval by the Surface Transportation Board (STB) of the US Department of Transportation. CP completed the financial transactions on October 4, 2007, placing the DM&E in a voting trust; operations remain independent until the STB issues its approval of the purchase.
