"The Lineman" by L.A. Ring
"The Lineman," also known as "The Railroad Guard," painted in 1884 by Danish artist L. A. Ring, depicts a railroad employee whose job was to operate the gates at a level crossing and to provide a visual inspection of trains as they passed his location.
