Rokkō Toura (戸浦 六宏, Toura Rokkō, 25 March 1937 – 30 April 1993) was a Japanese stage and film actor active from 1960 to 1993.[1][2] He is mostly associated with the films of director Nagisa Ōshima.[1]

Biography

Toura was born Mutsuhiro Toura in Osaka, Japan.[1][3] A graduate of Kyoto University, he worked as an English teacher at a private high school before becoming an actor at the Shochiku studios at Ōshima's recommendation.[1] He left Shochiku together with Ōshima the following year and became a freelance actor who often worked with Ōshima, but also repeatedly with director Kaneto Shindō.[1][4]

Toura died of polyarteritis nodosa in 1993 at the age of 62.[2]
