主要可以分為二種:一種是先煮過再冷凍的甜點,是由奶黃及淀粉製成[1],在美國、加拿大、瑞典、東亞及東南亞較常見。另一種是要蒸過或烘烤過的甜點,類似蛋糕,在英國、愛爾蘭、澳洲及紐西蘭較盛行。
