人的桡骨位于大拇指側,上端为扁圓形的头,上面参与肘关节的组成,而以其周缘与尺骨构成桡尺近侧关节(组成肘关节的一部分),下端粗大,下面参与桡腕关节的组成,其内侧面与尺骨下端相接,构成桡尺远侧关节。
由于桡骨与尺骨上、下端之间均有关节,桡骨可以环绕尺骨做140°-160°的回旋运动,即前臂和手的旋前和旋后运动;当桡骨下端旋至尺骨前方称“旋前”,此时桡骨与尺骨交叉,与此相反的运动称“旋后”,此时两骨并列;这样大大增加手的活动范围。
如果跌倒時用手掌撐地,由於橈骨須承受所有力量,有可能因此發生骨折。
