勞侖茲因子

勞侖茲因子定義為：

${\displaystyle \gamma ={\frac {1}{\sqrt {1-{\frac {v^{2}}{c^{2}}}}}}={\frac {1}{\sqrt {1-\beta ^{2}}}}={\frac {dt}{d\tau }}}$

其中

• v為兩慣性系之間的相對速度，
• c為真空中光速，
• β為v除以光速c的比值，
• τ為原時，
• t為座標時間。

一些作者另外定義了勞侖茲因子的倒數：[1]

可用於速度相加推導。

相對論性條件(近光速)下，物體的總能量${\displaystyle E}$與動量${\displaystyle p}$可以通過勞侖茲因子${\displaystyle \gamma }$簡單寫為：

其中${\displaystyle m}$為靜質量。

在四维向量描述下，能-動向量則成為：

洛伦兹因子与速度的关系。速度为零时洛伦兹因子为1，速度${\displaystyle v\to c}$时洛伦兹因子趋于无穷大。

當速度遠小於光速（非相對論性條件下），即${\displaystyle v\ll c}$，則${\displaystyle \beta }$趨近於0，而${\displaystyle \gamma }$趨近於1，回到傳統的牛頓力學描述。
