霍华德·齐默尔曼

霍华德·艾略特·齐默尔曼英語:1926年7月5日—2012年2月12日),美国化学家,威斯康星大学麦迪逊分校化学教授。[3]他于1980年入选为美国国家科学院院士[4],并于1986年荣获美国化学家协会(AIC)化学先驱奖[5][6]

生平

霍华德·齐默尔曼是土生土长的康乃狄克州人。[7]第二次世界大战期间,他作为一名坦克炮手,服役于欧洲战场的美军装甲军团。他最终以技术中士军衔退役。[8]1950年,他获得了耶鲁大学化学理学学士学位,并在1953年取得了该校的哲学博士学位。[8]1953年至1954年,他作为美国国家科学研究委员会博士后奖学金研究员,与伍德沃德哈佛大学)共事。[8]1954年至1960年,他以助理教授职位供职于西北大学[8]1960年后,他调职威斯康星大学副教授,不久升任为正教授。1990年,他获得了威斯康星大学希尔代尔物理科学奖。1991年,获得美国化学会亚瑟·科普学者奖。[8]他一生共发表了超过285篇论文(11章),并曾在英語维基百科德語維基百科以「Hezimmerman」身份参与创作。

齐默尔曼曾为美国化学会(ACS)开设了关于有机量子化学分子轨道理论的短期课程,他曾撰写了教科书《有机化学家的量子化学》(1975,Quantunm Mechanics for Organic Chemists)。[9]他也是1972年IUPAC光化学座谈会(巴登-巴登)和五次环太平洋化学座谈会(最后一次为2010年)的组织者之一。
