5月8日，所屬經紀公司宣布防彈少年團將在7月15日發行日本正規四輯《Map of the Soul: 7 ~The Journey~》，包括主打曲〈Stay Gold〉以及成員Jung Kook參與作曲的〈Your eyes tell〉兩首新歌，〈Your eyes tell〉為日本電影〈想見你的愛〉量身打造的主題曲，亦同時收錄日文版〈ON〉以及〈Black Swan〉等共13首歌曲。[2]

此專輯共分為八個發行版本：通常盤、環球音樂限定盤、FC限定盤、7net限定盤、初回限定盤A、B、C及D。

商業成績

6月20日，《Map of the Soul: 7 ~ The Journey ~》 先行曲〈Stay Gold〉發行後取得iTunes單曲榜82個國家及地區一位，刷新了自身日語作品的最佳紀錄。[3]6月27日，先行曲〈Stay Gold〉音樂錄影帶首日最高觀看次數達到2779萬，成為韓國藝人中日語作品首日最高觀看次數的音樂錄影帶。[4]

7月16日，《Map of the Soul: 7 ~The Journey~》首日銷量突破44萬7869張，成為Oricon2020年專輯榜首日銷量最高的專輯。[5]同日，收錄曲〈Your eyes tell〉獲得全球共93個國家及地區iTunes單曲榜一位，成為史上在iTunes中獲得最多冠軍的日語歌曲。[6]
