FreeSync由AMD开发,并于2014年首次发布,与Nvidia的专有技术G-Sync为竞争关系。 [2]该技术为免版税、免费使用,且没有性能损失。[3]

概述

FreeSync动态地调整显示刷新率到可变的帧速率,因为渲染复杂游戏内容时有着不均匀的GPU负载,而固定的视频内容使用的较低的23.97/24/29.97/30帧每秒。这有助于消除由于视频接口必须完成当前帧而导致的卡顿延迟,以及在传输过程中启动新帧(垂直同步关闭)所导致的畫面撕裂。支持的最大刷新率范围为9-240Hz。[3]FreeSync可以通过即插即用自动启用,使其对操作系统和最终用户透明。

不同刷新率之间可以无缝转换,用户不会察觉。同步机制使视频接口保持像素时钟速率,但动态调整垂直空白間隙。监视器将保持显示当前接收到的图像,直到一个新帧呈递给显卡的帧缓冲器,然后立即开始传输新图像。这种简单机制提供了低延迟且平滑的监视器,基本无间断的观看体验,同时降低了时序控制器(TCON)和显示面板接口的实现复杂性。它还有助于在不接收新图像时降低面板的刷新率,从而延长电池续航。[4]

自适应同步

VESA宣布自适应同步(Adaptive-Sync)是DisplayPort 1.2a规范的一个组成部分;FreeSync是一种硬件-软件解决方案,它使用DisplayPort自适应同步协议来实现流畅、无撕裂且低延迟的游戏体验。[5]FreeSync也已在HDMI接口上实现。 [6]

FreeSync 类型

AMD FreeSync 技术分为三个类型,分别是 AMD FreeSync、AMD FreeSync Premium 和 AMD FreeSync Premium Pro。

FreeSync Premium Pro

2017年1月,AMD宣布推出第二代FreeSync。技术要求包括:移除最低帧速率、设置屏幕延迟最大值等。FreeSync 2还支持宽色域色彩空间(使色彩量增加一倍)和增加的显示亮度,使显卡驱动程序和应用软件能直接支持HDR显示。显示器的DisplayID/用于色彩原色和最大/最小亮度的EDID元数据在写入帧缓冲器时用于色调映射环节的调整,从而减少操作系统层面色彩管理以及视频接口电路上的色彩空间和传输功能(EOTF)的处理环节,进而减少输出延迟。 [7] [8]
