The 1939 Birmingham Aston by-election was a parliamentary by-election held on 17 May 1939 for the British House of Commons constituency of Birmingham Aston.
Background
Arthur Hope, who served as Birmingham Aston's Member of Parliament since 1931, gave up his seat after being appointed Governor of Madras in 1939.[1] He assumed office as governor in March 1940.[2]
