For the first time in the tournament's history, there were six former champions in the main draw: Sabalenka, Naomi Osaka, Sofia Kenin, Caroline Wozniacki, Angelique Kerber, and Victoria Azarenka.^[2]

Twelve seeds were eliminated in the opening round, marking the highest number since the introduction of the 32-seed draw in majors, tying with the record set in the 2016 Australian Open.
