- 3 January: Private companies were allowed to operate drug rehabilitation centres in the country.[1]
- 4 January: President Muizzu launched a multimillion-dollar project to upgrade Velana International Airport (VIA) to boost the capacity to 25 million passengers,[2] which caused seaplane terminals to be relocated to Funadhoo for the project to continue.[3] Muizzu planned the creation of an establishment with the name "Maldives International Financial Services Authority" and planned Funadhoo to be an international financial hub.[4][5]
- 7 January:
- Malé Prison evacuated and closed due to the close proximity to other schools and colleges and relocated[6]
- National Anthem started playing everyday at schools.[7]
- 8 January: 3 ministers who work in the Ministry of Youth Empowerment, Information and Arts were suspended for insulting Indian PM Narendra Modi on X (formerly Twitter) when he posted a photo of him in Lakshadweep,The Youth Ministry officials had called Modi a "clown," a "terrorist," and a "puppet of Israel" (As the Muslim-majority Maldives has previously condemned Israeli invasion of the Gaza Strip). which sparked online controversy about India-Maldives relations which ended in many Indian influencers boycotting Maldives and planning to visit Lakshadweep.[8][9][10]
- 10 January: The website of the Juvenile Court of the Maldives was hacked by Indian hackers and displayed a warning.[11][12]
- 12 January:
- Malé and other islands experienced flooding and rain since early morning, MNDF soldiers were deployed to drain the flooding.[13] Due to the flooding, Hulhumalé cemetery was flooded and bodies that were to be buried were moved to Galolhu cemetery in Malé.[14] The weather caused flights to be delayed and one plane damaged,[15][16] and 144 houses being submerged[17] and people being put into shelter by the National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA).[18] It was later reported that the capital had 159 mm of rain, the heaviest ever being recorded.[19]
- Maldivian actor, Mohamed Yunan and his wife Fathimath Rihula, is pending their trials end. They were charged with multiple counts of sexually abusing children in their family from 2019 to 2020.[20]
- 13 January:
- Malé City Citizens head to the voting station to vote for the new Malé city mayor.[21]
- Adam Azim wins the mayoral election.[22]
- 14 January:
- The Maldives calls for the complete withdrawal of the Indian Armed Forces from its territory by March 15 amid a diplomatic dispute between the two countries. India currently has around 80 troops stationed on the archipelago.[23] President Muizzu has given India till March 15 to remove all troops.[24]
- Education Ministry and Maldives Government announces "Nationalism" be taught in schools starting from the next academic year as a new subject.[25]
- 15 January:
- The government sent a private flight to Turkey to bring back Maldivian ex-fighters that were displaced during the civil war in Syria.[26]
- Dharumavantha Hospital succeeds Indira Gandhi Memorial Hospital as the primary government hospital.[27]
- Government allows fostering of children under state custody.[28][29]
