Ashok Sharma

Ashok Sharma (died 3 August 2022) was an Indian politician, prominent BJP leader, and the eldest son of former minister Banwari Lal Sharma.[1]

Political career

After studying LLB, Ashok Sharma entered active politics in 1984 as the Youth Congress president while father Banwari Lal Sharma was the MLA from Dholpur assembly. Sharma came into limelight in politics when people started agitation regarding the flyover being built in Dholpur district and actively participated in this movement.[2]

After this, in 1993, he worked as the District Minister of Congress. In the 2008 assembly elections, he contested the assembly elections on a Congress ticket. After losing the election, the Congress gave him the command as the district president.

Sharma remained active in the politics of Congress till 2018. Just before the 2018 assembly elections, Sharma left the Congress and joined the BJP to become a candidate from Rajkheda, but had to face defeat in front of Rohit Bohra. He was considered the leader of Vasundhara Raje's camp.

Personal life

Ashok Sharma hails from a political family. He is the son of former minister Banwari Lal Sharma. Sharma died on 3 August 2022 morning at 4 am due to cardiac arrest. As soon as the news of the death was received, people along with Congress and BJP leaders gathered in large numbers.[3]
