Premise
The show revolves around Lakshmi, a kind-hearted naïve girl from a village who gets married to a businessman named Rishi Oberoi. However, things take a turn when Lakshmi learns the truth of her marriage.
Rishi was actually coerced by his parents, especially by his mother Neelam, to get married to Lakshmi for one year as they believed that Lakshmi could save him from bad luck or death as told by their pandit. Rishi also has a girlfriend Malishka, who had earlier approved of this marriage. However, as they get married, Malishka senses a change in Rishi's behaviour – actually Rishi had begun to like Malishka. Before one year is over, Lakshmi gets to know the truth about her marriage and leaves her house and doesn't return although Neelam requests her to.
Eventually in court, Lakshmi and Rishi are told to stay together for 6 months before the divorce is finalised seeing Rishi and Lakshmi's bonding. During the 6 months, Rishi falls in love with Lakshmi, however Malishka hatches a plan and makes it seem like Rishi slept with her although he didn't. Lakshmi finalises her divorce and leaves. Rishi and Malishka's marriage is fixed. However, Rishi brings her back claiming that he will get her married to a guy and help her get settled as a friend. However, Rishi proposes to Lakshmi and tells Malishka that he only loves Lakshmi; but Lakshmi rejects it after thinking about Malishka. Lakshmi's marriage is fixed with Vikrant, but it turns out that Vikrant was planning to deceive Lakshmi, and he already had a wife but was marrying Lakshmi only for a child. They get to know about him on the day of wedding, and the wedding is called off. Lakshmi again leaves the house due to being insulted. Fearing that Rishi will break off his marriage with Malishka, Rishi and Malishka's marriage date is fixed. But Rishi again brings her back on the pretext of her planning his and Malishka's wedding, as a way to make her accept her love for him. However, just before the wedding Rishi says he can't marry anyone but Lakshmi, and he loves and will only marry Lakshmi. Lakshmi again rejects, but Neelam says that she can't let them marry and askes Rishi to choose between her and Lakshmi. Rishi chooses Lakshmi and leaves his house with Lakshmi.
Lakshmi finally accepts that she loves him too but denies marrying him as it will make Neelam sad. They start living together, although the area they live in raises questions on them being a live-in couple. Soon, Rishi, Rishi's father, cousin and Lakshmi's sisters finally convince her to get married. They finally get married and believe everything will be happy from now on. When they were leaving for honeymoon, Malishka causes Rishi and Lakshmi's accident and tries to kill them. Both of them are saved, and Neelam finally accepts them and calls them back home. In their house once again, Rishi and Lakshmi are to get married, but Lakshmi faints just before the marriage and turns out that Lakshmi has lost her mental stability. Rishi brings her back home much to a few members' disappointment.
