Burjeel Holdings is a private healthcare services provider in the MENA region.[1] The company was founded in 2007 by Dr. Shamsheer Vayalil. It comprises 62 assets, including hospitals, polyclinics, and specialty centers in the UAE, Oman and KSA.[2]

Burjeel Holdings' brands include, Burjeel Hospitals, Medeor Hospitals, LLH Hospitals, Lifecare Hospitals, and Tajmeel.[3] In September 2022, Abu Dhabi-based International Holding Company bought a 15% stake in Burjeel Holdings.[4][5] In 2023, Burjeel Holdings was recognized by Great Place to Work Middle East as one of the UAE's best workplaces.[6]

Burjeel Medical City, the company's flagship facility, is a quaternary care facility in Mohamed Bin Zayed City. Opened in 2020,[7][8] Burjeel Medical City, spanning 1.2m sq. ft. with a capacity of 400 beds, offers complex care in different specialties. It is the only European Society for Medical Oncology-accredited cancer facility in the UAE.[9][10][11]

Brands

In 2022, Burjeel Holdings announced the appointment of Bollywood actor Shah Rukh Khan as its brand ambassador.[13] The actor then appeared in a region-wide, multi-platform advertising campaign for the healthcare group, which was unveiled with a unique screening on the Burj Khalifa.

Burjeel Hospitals

Established in 2012, Burjeel operates hospitals, specialized centers, day surgery centers, and medical clinics in the UAE and Oman.[14] The brand advertises experienced medical professionals, technological advancements, and hospitality. Burjeel's facilities includes its flagship Burjeel Medical City.

Burjeel Medical City

Burjeel Medical City is a quaternary care facility in Abu Dhabi, United Arab Emirates.[15] The 1.2 million-square-foot hospital houses 400 beds and 50+ specialties, including oncology, hematology, bone marrow transplantation, neurosurgery, multi-organ transplantation, orthopedic surgery, pediatric surgery, fetal medicine, nuclear medicine, and many others.[16] The hospital is equipped with medical technology and employs Western-board-certified physicians. Burjeel Medical City is the UAE's first ESMO-accredited Integrated Oncology and Palliative Care Center.[17] As part of its complex care offerings, Burjeel Medical City houses the Kypros Nicolaides Fetal Medicine and Therapy Center, Paley Middle East Clinic, and IFEM Endo Middle East Clinic. Burjeel Darak, the long-term care and rehabilitation wing, is also part of Burjeel Medical City.[18]

Achievements

  • The UAE's first pediatric bone marrow transplant was performed at Burjeel Medical City in April 2022.[19]
  • A team of fetal medicine experts at the Kypros Nicolaides Fetal Medicine and Therapy Center performed a rare in-utero spina bifida repair on a Colombian patient in June 2022.[20]
  • Burjeel Medical City carried out the first kidney transplant in the UAE's private sector in August 2022.[21]
  • Burjeel Hospital for Advanced Surgery, Dubai, performed the first Vertebral Body Tethering procedure in the GCC and Northern Africa region.[22]
