Cameron Mackenzie (born 21 January 2004) is an Australian rules footballer who plays in the Australian Football League (AFL).
Early career
Born in London to a South African father and a Canadian mother, his parents were open to experiencing live in different places around the world. His family moved to Australia when he was one. When he was twelve the family spent a year in the south of France.[1] He learned to speak french fluently and when he returned to Australia he acquired the nickname Frenchie. Cameron's father was born in South Africa meaning Mackenzie was eligible to join St Kilda Next Generation Academy. Unfortunately for the Saints a changing of the drafting rules meant that they could not match a bid before pick 40. [2]
AFL career
He was the seventh selection in the 2022 AFL draft by Hawthorn.[3] He has been described as a reliable and well-rounded player with a measured temperament.[4]
Hawthorn coach passed a note to Cam that was written in french and asked him to translate, The note said that he would make his debut this weekend.[5] He made his debut against Essendon at the MCG in the opening round of the 2023 AFL season.
