Christopher Bores (born November 5, 1978)[2][3] is an American paranormal investigator and author.[4] Based in Toledo, Ohio, he is best known for his documentaries, live events, and books documenting his experiences and instructions on how to communicate with paranormal activity.[5][6] He's created the documentary series Haunted Investigators and hosts the controversial YouTube channel Ghost Doctor.[7][8]
Career
Beginnings
Bores' fascination for ghost hunting began in 2004, as the field gained mainstream recognition on United States television. In an interview with Toledo Blade, Bores stated: "[The televised ghost hunters] showed us that there was a systemic approach to coming at the paranormal field. The problem was when 2010 hit the entire field as a whole kind of hit a wall [sic] and no one knew where to take the genre next". Bores also described the considerable stagnation of such syndication into the 2010s–2020s, as few to no developments in research were documented with paranormal activity.
Bores began combining his filmmaking background into his investigations, with his debut 2009 documentary series Haunted Investigators (2009–2010).[9]
Developments
In 2012, he claims to have had a "90-minute interaction" with a spirit at St. Augustine Lighthouse in Florida. To his surprise, his methodology is reported to have succeeded and set the foundation for the system in which he uses when engage with spirits.[10] He added: "For nine years I’ve been refining that approach and figuring out what works and what doesn’t. I was the ghost hunting tour guide at the Collingwood Arts Center for five years and I really honed in my approach by interacting with the spirits there. That place is really haunted."[11] Bores said since his St. Augustine interaction, he's engaged with spirits personally and learned more about their way of life. Bores stated: "I started learning things about the spirit world I’ve never heard before. Things like there are rules to the after-life that they have to follow. I’ve found that spirits cannot see in the dark. I’ve learned that they’re omnipresent and can travel just about any place that they can please. I’ve added this knowledge to my approach and it just helps me build a comfort level with them to get even more interaction," he concluded.
Bores says that his methods for spirit world communication have a set of strict requirements. After gaining a higher name recognition for his spirit communications, he was reportedly was approached by Oliver House to investigate his findings in the building. Representatives at Oliver House have not validated this, although Bores has been invited to publicly display his findings at the building since 2021. He published "longer-than-intended" video documentaries displaying his findings, claiming to have interacted with 6 spirits at Oliver House.[12]
Other ventures
Bores is also the creator, producer, and host of the retrogaming comedy web series The Irate Gamer Show (2007–present) and the children's YouTube channel Puppet Steve, which have garnered roughly 150,000 and 1 million subscribers respectively as of 2024.[13] The former ran for 8 seasons, and contained guest appearances from James Rolfe, Ernie Hudson, Peter Weller, Jason David Frank, Rob Paulsen, Zach Galligan, and Michael Buckley.[14]
