The Connecticut Death Index is maintained by the Connecticut Department of Public Health and list all people who died in Connecticut starting in 1949. In 2011 the state switched to an online system for recording deaths to replace the hand written death certificates.[1]

The Department of Public Health is pleased to introduce a new Electronic Death Registration System (EDRS), initiated for the purpose of replacing the current paper-based system. EDRS will enable funeral directors, hospitals, nursing homes, medical personnel and town registrars to complete and register the death record through a secure, web-based system.
