Daud Khan Fort is a historical fort located at Daudnagar in Aurangabad district in the Indian state of Bihar. It was built by the Daud Khan Quraishi, the commander-in-chief of Mughal Emperor Aurangzeb and then Governor of Bihar.[1][2][3] It is recognised under the Tourism Department of Bihar.[4]

Location and history

Location

The fort is located in about 35 kilometers away from the Aurangabad district headquarters at the Daudnagar area, which was named after the Nawab Daud Khan Quraishi.[5]

History

The historic fort was built by the Daud Khan Quraishi, then Governor of Bihar and chief Subedar of Aurangzeb. It was started building after Aurangzeb gifted Ancha and Manora parganas to Daud Khan.[6]

It's groundbreaking was held in 1663 and it was completed in year 1673, in about 10 years from the groundbreaking.[7]

Initiatives

The Member of Bihar Legislative Assembly from the Obra Assembly constituency, Rishi Kumar raised the question for undertaking of the fort against the Jitendra Kumar Rai, the minister of Art, Culture and Youth affairs.[8]
