Dounia and the Princess of Aleppo (French: Dounia et la princesse d'Alep) is a Canadian/French animated film, directed by André Kadi and Marya Zarif and released in 2022.[1] The film centres on Dounia, a young Syrian girl who is leaving her hometown of Aleppo with her grandparents to find a new place to live following the outbreak of the Syrian Civil War.[2]

The film's voice cast includes Rachaf Ataya as Dounia, as well as Elsa Mardorissian, Manuel Tadros, Raia Haidar, Marya Zarif, Naim Jeanbart, Mustapha Aramis, Houssam Ataya and Irlande Côté.

The film premiered in June 2022 at the Annecy International Animation Film Festival.[1]

Awards

The film received an Asia Pacific Screen Award nomination for Best Animated Feature Film at the 15th Asia Pacific Screen Awards in 2022,[3] and a Prix Iris nomination for Most Successful Film Outside Quebec at the 25th Quebec Cinema Awards in 2023.[4]
