Eanfrith (d. circa. 674)[1] was the first recorded king of Hwicce in the 7th century. He was the brother of Eanhere.
In circa. 660/1, Wulfhere arranged for Eanfrith to marry his daughter Eafe to the new Mercian ally Æthelwealh of Sussex.[2]
Eanfrith died around 674 and was briefly outlived by his brother. Eanhere was succeeded by his brothers Osric, Oswald, and Oshere.[3]
Name
Eanfrith has a Bernician name which probably indicates at least partially Northumbrian heritage. His kin may have fled Bernicia in the early 7th century as opponents of Aethelfrith or Edwin.
