Faye Mary Kirby (born 5 April 2004) is an English professional football player who plays as goalkeeper for Liverpool F.C Women,[1][2] as well as playing internationally for England Women U19.[3]

Kirby was placed on loan in August 2023 to Aberdeen F.C Women, to play as the first choice goalkeeper for the team, but she is currently undergoing treatment for an ACL injury which she sustained in September 2023.[4][5]

Club career

Youth career

Faye Kirby began her career playing grassroots football for Maghull Football Club and Litherland Tigers Junior F.C, playing against all-male teams who were two years older than herself,[6] before joining Everton F.C Women Academy at age 7.[7]

Kirby remained at Everton Academy for eleven seasons then was until she completed a move to Liverpool F.C Women in September 2022.[8][9]

Liverpool

Kirby made her "superb" debut for Liverpool in the FA Woman's League Cup against West Ham United F.C Women on 25 January 2022.[10] She later had her Women's Super League debut against a powerful Chelsea F.C Woman side.[11] She earned player of the match for her "excellent"[12] saves.[13][14] Kirby started another two times for Liverpool F.C Women in the 2022–23 season and earned the team's Young Player of the Year Award, Performance of the Season and the Save of the Season Award.[15]

On loan to Aberdeen

At the start of the 2023–24 season, Kirby joined Aberdeen F.C Women on loan, to play in the Scottish Women's Premier League, and was due to stay there for the first half of the 2023/24 season.[16] Faye Kirby's debut for Aberdeen was against Motherwell F.C Women, on 13 August 2023 which the team with a 3–2 win. Her second match saw her be heroic despite the 5–1 loss to Rangers W.F.C.[17]

Faye Kirby's most recent match was against Hibernian W.F.C, on 13 September 2023, where in the 55th minute,[18] she attained a complete rupture of her ACL.[19][20] This ACL injury has meant that Kirby's season has ended prematurely due to the long rehabilitation process which follows on from this form of injury.[21] During Kirby's short time at Aberdeen, she was able to attain two clean sheets – one on 3 September 2023 against Spartans W.F.C and the other on 10 September 2023 against Hamilton Academical W.F.C.[22]

International career

Kirby has been selected to play for England U16, England U17, England U18 and England U19. She has played against a number of countries while playing internationally, such as: Slovenia, Switzerland, Belarus, the US, the Netherlands and Spain.[23]

Education

Faye Kirby attended Great Crosby Catholic Primary School for her primary school education.[24]

She joined St. Mary's College, Crosby for secondary school education,[25][26] where she became the first ever girl in the history of the school to play a competitive game of football.[27]
