Finlay Lewis J. Cole is an English actor from Kingston, London. He is known for his role in the BBC series Peaky Blinders as Michael Gray. He also starred as Joshua "J" Cody in TNT's Animal Kingdom, and played young Jakob Toretto in the film F9.

Life and career

As a child, Cole wanted to work on boats like his father.[1] His older brother Joe is also an actor and helped Finn get the audition for his first acting job.[2]

In 2014, Cole was cast to play the main role in the crime drama series Peaky Blinders, where he played the main role of Michael Gray.[3][4][5]

In 2015, Cole appeared as Eric Birling in Helen Edmundson's BBC One adaptation of An Inspector Calls.[6] On that same year, Cole appeared in a guest role–as Ollie Tedman in the detective drama series Lewis.

Cole was cast to play the main role as Joshua "J" Cody in the American drama television series Animal Kingdom, which premiered on TNT on June 14, 2016 and final season premiered on June 19, 2022.[7][8][9]

In 2018, Cole starred alongside Asa Butterfield, Hermione Corfield, Michael Sheen, with Nick Frost and Simon Pegg in the comedy horror film Slaughterhouse Rulez, where he played the lead role as Don Wallace, which was released on 31 October 2018 in the United Kingdom and on 17 May 2019 in the United States and Canada.[10][11]

In 2019, Cole starred in a period thriller film by Miles Joris-Peyrafitte titled Dreamland with Margot Robbie, portraying Eugene Evans, which was premiere at the Tribeca Film Festival on April 28, 2019, and was released via a limited release on November 13, 2020, by Vertical Entertainment, followed by its video on demand release on November 17, 2020, by Paramount Home Entertainment.[12][13][14]

In early 2020, Cole co-starred Dean-Charles Chapman and Anya Taylor-Joy in the drama film Here Are the Young Men, playing Joseph Kearney, which was world premiere at the Galway Film Fleadh on 11 July 2020. It was released in the United States on 27 April 2021, by Well Go USA Entertainment, and in the United Kingdom on 30 April 2021, by Signature Entertainment.[15][16][17]

In 2021, Cole also appeared as a young Jakob Toretto in F9. Cole appeared as Jamie in the 2023 psychological thriller film Locked In opposite Famke Janssen, Rose Williams, Alex Hassell and Anna Friel, which was released on streaming service Netflix on 1 November 2023.[18][19]

Personal life

Cole was born in London, the second-youngest of five brothers.[1] One of his elder brothers is Joe Cole, whom he starred alongside in Peaky Blinders.[20]
