Gorilla Barbeque is a barbecue restaurant in Pacifica, California in the San Francisco Bay Area. The restaurant opened in 2006 and is believed to be the first boxcar business in San Mateo County.[1] The restaurant is located on California State Route 1 and only serves take-out style.[2] The boxcar Gorilla Barbeque uses was once part of the Ocean Shore Railroad.[3]

The restaurant serves slow-smoked meats including, beef brisket, ribs, chicken, pulled pork and hot links, as well as southern-style sides.[4][5] David Lawrence, the owner of Black Bark BBQ in San Francisco, stated to Eater, "The dried rub smoked meat is the standard bearer in the Bay Area."[6]

Media appearances

In 2009, Guy Fieri visited Gorilla Barbeque for the fifth season of Diners, Drive-Ins and Dives.[7] On a Reddit post in 2016, Gorilla was included on a list of places recommended for Kevin Durant to visit after his move to the Golden State Warriors from Oklahoma City.[8] Tasting Table included Gorilla on a list of Top 40 restaurants along California Highway 1 in 2022.[9]
