Grant Perez, known professionally as Grentperez, is a Filipino-Australian singer and songwriter from Western Sydney.
Early life and education
Grant Perez grew up as the youngest of three children in Sydney, Australia and is of Filipino descent.[1][2][3] He listened to The Eagles, The Beatles, and Queen with his dad before moving on to the likes of Musiq Soulchild.[2]
He completed his HSC at St Marys Senior High School.[4]
Perez found his audience on YouTube playing guitar and singing covers and original songs from age five.[5]
At the end of 2013, he launched his YouTube channel. In 2020, Perez uploaded original tracks "Wait for You", "Dreams" and "In My Heart",[2] which all featured on his 2021 EP Demo(s) About Love.
Career
In September 2021 Grentperez released his debut single "Cherry Wine".[6] It was certified gold in Australia in 2023.
In 2022 Grentperez released the EPs Conversations with the Moon and Trail Mix Tape EP and Christmas single called "When Christmas Comes Again".[6]
In June 2023, Grentperez released his fourth EP, When We Were Younger.[7][1] When We Were Younger is a seven-track song cycle centered around the concept of nostalgia.[8]
In September 2023, Grentperez released "Op Shop Lover" with Lime Cordiale.[9]
Throughout September and into October 2023, Grentperez attended as an opening act for Rex Orange County as a part of his Australia/New Zealand Tour, playing shows in Wellington, Auckland, Adelaide, Brisbane, Sydney, Melbourne, and Perth. He also opened for the Tokyo and Manila shows.
In November 2023, Grentperez released the Christmas single "Christmas Starts Tonight".[10]
He records on the Fast Friends record label.[11]
