Héctor Enrique Urban Astete (b. 1971[1]) is a Chilean farmer and politician from Ercilla, Araucanía Region. He was elected a Constitutional Council member for the Republican Party in the 7 May 2023 election, being the candidate who obtained most votes in his district.[2] Following this, his house in Ercilla was attacked with gunfire.[3][4] The same night of the attack, 9 May, the car of Urban's father and a police station in Ercilla were also attacked with gunfire.[4] The identity of the assailants is unknown.[4] He lives in what is known as the "red zone" (Spanish: Zona Roja) of the Mapuche conflict.[1] In particular, Urban's family has been involved in legal conflicts with people from the neighboring Mapuche communities of Temucuicui.[2]

He has a degree as a forestry technician.[2]

Urban's paternal great-grandfather, Enrique Urban, immigrated from Switzerland to Chile in 1903, establishing himself near the town of Ercilla.[1][2]
