Harmilan Kaur Bains (born 23 July 1998) is an athlete from Punjab. She was selected for the Asian Games Indian athletics team. She won the silver medals in the 800m and 1500m race at the 2022 Asian Games in Hangzhou, China.[1][2][3] She is the Indian record holder in 1500m.

Early life

Harmilan hails from Hoshiarpur, Punjab. She did her schooling at Doaba Public School, Mahilpur and the Saint Soldier School, Hoshiarpur. Harmilan's parents are both athletes.[4] Her father Amandeep Bains won a 1500m medal in the South Asian Games and her mother, Madhuri Singh, won silver in 800m at the 2002 Asian Games.[5] Her mother was also an Arjuna Awardee in the year 2003. She trained at the Sports Authority of India training centre at Dharamashala. She was supported by the CSR programme of Sportskeeda website.[6]

Career

  • 2023: Harmilan won the silver medal in the 1500m at the 2022 Asian Games in Hangzhou, China.[7][8][4]
  • 2023: She won silver medals in both 1500m and 800m at the Inter-State Athletics Championships in Bhubaneswar.
  • 2021: She clocked 4:05.39 in 1500m at the National Open Championships 2021 in Warangal to set a new National Record erasing Sunita Rani's 2002 record of 4:06.03.[6]
  • 2021: She clocked  2:02.57, her personal best in the 800m at the 2021 Nationals in Patiala.
  • 2020: Won a gold medal each in the 1500m and 800m at the Khelo India University Games.
  • 2016: She won a bronze medal in the 1500m at the Asian Junior Championships at Ho Chi-Minh, Vietnam. She times 4:33.02.
