The High Commission of The Gambia in New Delhi is the diplomatic mission of the Republic of The Gambia in India.[1] The High Commission is headed by the High Commissioner Extraordinary to India. The present High Commissioner of The Gambia to India is His Excellency Mr. Mustapha Jawara.[2][3] The High Commission is situated at 68, Poorvi Marg, Vasant Vihar, the Diplomatic enclave of New Delhi, where most of the embassies which have opened over the recent years are located. The High Commission is accredited to Maldives, Sri Lanka, Bangladesh.[4]

The Gambian High Commission in New Delhi was inaugurated in February 2009. The Gambia High Commission has actively pursued educational and healthcare diplomacy. Presently there are more than 500 Gambian students[5] who study all over India and lot of medical tourists from the Gambia arrive in India for treatment.

Development partnerships

The bilateral engagement between India and The Gambia stands on the pillars of amicable political relations, development partnerships, trade and people-to-people contacts.[7][8] The Government of India has extended several Lines of Credit to the Government of Gambia covering diverse areas including Tractor Assembly, construction of National Assembly Building Complex (inaugurated in October 2014), replacement of Asbestos Water Pipes with UPVC pipes; Electricity Expansion Project in Greater Banjul Area (inaugurated in November 2020). India created Vocational Training Center (VTC) and Incubation Center (IC) in Banjul and handed over to the Gambian authorities in September 2017.[9]

India extended training on public policy and governance to 30 senior officials of The Gambia as part of the International cooperation between the Gambia Public Service Commission.[10]
