Huangfu Ran (714? – 767?) was a Chinese poet of the mid-Tang dynasty. His courtesy name was Maozheng.
Biography
Birth and early life
He was born around 714.[lower-alpha 1] He was a native of Anding (modern-day Jingchuan County, Gansu Province).[1] According to the New Book of Tang, Huangfu was able to compose literature by the age of ten, impressing Zhang Jiuling, who was the chancellor under Emperor Xuanzong at the time.[lower-alpha 2]
Political career
He left government after attaining the post of Zuo Bujue (左補闕).[1]
Death
He died around 767.[lower-alpha 3]
Names
His courtesy name was Maozheng.[1]
Poetry
In literary history, Huangfu is generally considered a poet of the so-called mid-Tang period, which spanned the late-eighth to early-ninth century.[1]
There is an anthology of his poetry, called Tang Huangfu Ran Shiji (唐皇甫冉詩集).[1]
