The Kayakalp Award is an award initiated by Ministry of Health and Family Welfare to honor health centers as an extension of Swachh Bharat Mission in India. Initially award was initiated for district hospitals on May 15, 2015, later expanded to Public Health Center level in 2016, Then extended to all Urban Health facilities in 2017.[1] It is an initiative to recognize and incentivize public health facilities in all districts to promote high levels of cleanliness, hygiene and infection control measures.[2]
Types
Based on various assessment and scoring by an external Assessor Team, the awards would be distributed as follows:

Category B | 26 – 50 | 2 Awards | Rs. 50.00 lakhs – Winner, Rs. 20.00 lakhs – Runner-up |
Category C | > 50 | 3 Awards | Rs. 50.00 lakhs - Winner, Rs. 20.00 lakhs – Ist Runnerup, Rs. 10.00 lakhs –IInd runner-up |
- Best two Community Health Centres/Sub District Hospitals (limited to one in small states). Small States are those states & UTs, which have less than 10 Districts.
- One Primary Health Centre in every district
Criteria
This award would be distributed based on following parameters:
- Hospital/Facility Upkeep
- Sanitation and hygiene
- Waste Management
- Infection control.
- Support Services
- Hygiene Promotion
