Lone

(Kashmiri: Devanagari: लोन्; Perso-Arabic: لون, 'lōn'; /loːn/), historically known as Lavanya (from Sanskrit लावण्य/lāvaṇya) meaning 'beauty'[1] is a Kashmiri surname found in the Indian administered union territory of Jammu and Kashmir and the Pakistani administered province of Azad Kashmir. Kashmiris with this surname are also found in other parts of India and in the Pakistani Punjabi areas of Lahore, Gujranwala and Sialkot.

Origin

Lones (Lavanyas) are the descendants of Loharas which ruled Kashmir and surrounding regions for more than 300 years.The original abode of Lones was around the fortress of Loharkot.They were mainly settled in northern regions of Kashmir to protect the kingdom from incursions of Daradas.

The Lohara dynasty were Hindu rulers of Kashmir from the Khasa tribe, in the northern part of the Indian subcontinent, between 1003 and approximately 1320 CE.
