Mason & Julez are an Australian musical duo consisting of brothers Mason and Jules Coutinho. They have released one studio album, Going on 21.[2]

Early life

Mason and Jules Coutinho are the two youngest of five children.[3] They are brothers born in 2004 and 2006 respectively in Melbourne, Australia.[4]

Mason learned to play guitar and sing when he was around ten years old.[5] He began releasing solo music under his full name, most of which is no longer available.[6][7][8] Soon after, Mason and his younger brother, singer and rapper Jules, moved to Los Angeles, California, to pursue a career in music.[9] A few years later, they joined the social media platform TikTok, where their music would gain popularity. The two created a YouTube channel in 2016, where they would post covers and mashups of their favorite songs, original songs, and lifestyle videos.[10]

Career

After signing to Left Lane Entertainment Group, Mason & Julez wrote and produced their debut studio album, Going on 21,[5][11] which was released on April 29, 2022.[2][12] The album featured the single "Key to My Lock".[13] It fuses many genres together, including hip hop, pop, and reggae, and embraces sounds not found in their earlier music. According to Mason, "we have always lived with a lot of people in the house. And, I think that we listened to a lot of different kinds of music because there were so many people who liked different kinds of music in the house."[14]

Three months after the album was released, they released a live, acoustic version of the entire album under the title Going on 21 (Live Sessions, Vol. 1).[15]

On February 24, 2023, Mason & Julez released the single "Rock With You" featuring multiplatinum R&B recording artist Lloyd.

As of July 2023, they have accumulated over 135,000 monthly listeners on Spotify.[16]

Personal life

Mason and Jules currently reside in Los Angeles. As a pastime, they busk and perform small shows in the area.[12][17]

Mason has stated that some of his greatest music influences are Khalid, Post Malone, Shawn Mendes, Halsey, Drake, and Ed Sheeran.[18]
