Matthew John Entz (born October 9, 1972) is an American football coach who is currently the linebackers coach and assistant head coach for defense at the University of Southern California. Prior to that he was the head football coach at North Dakota State University from 2019 to 2023. Entz took over from the departing Chris Klieman after Klieman led the 2018 North Dakota State Bison football team to the program's seventh NCAA Division I Football Championship in eight seasons. Entz was the defensive coordinator for the Bison from 2014 until his promotion following the 2018 season.

2014–2023
In 2014, Entz left Western Illinois to join Chris Klieman at North Dakota State as Defensive Coordinator, a position he held for five seasons. In 2018, Chris Klieman was hired as head coach of Kansas State and Matt Entz was hired and named the new head coach to replace him. During his 5-season career at NDSU, Entz led the football program to the playoffs in all five years, ending in two national championships, a runner-up finish, along with a semifinal and quarterfinal appearances. His overall record was 60–11, and included a 15–3 playoff record.

University of Southern California

2023–Present
On Dec 10, 2023, Matt Entz was named Assistant Head Coach for defense/linebackers at USC.[1] He remained at NDSU for the remainder of the 2023 playoff run which ended the next Saturday at Montana in the FCS Semifinals.

Personal life

Entz is married to Brenda Entz. They have two sons: Kellen and Konner.[2] Entz is a Christian.[3]

Entz earned a bachelor's degree in biology from Wartburg College in 1995 and a master's degree in education and exercise science from Wayne State College in Wayne, Nebraska in 1998.[2]
