The Miss Nicaragua or (Miss Universe Nicaragua) is an Nicaraguan beauty pageant that has been held annually since 1955 to select the entrant from Nicaragua in the Miss Universe and since 2023 to select the entrant to Miss Charm pageant. Until 2001 when the model agency Silhuetas announces that the most important beauty pageant in the country will be operated until 2023 by Karen Celebertti.

The current Miss Nicaragua is Sheynnis Palacios of Diriamba, who was crowned on August 5, 2023, at the Crowne Plaza Convention Center in Managua. She was also crowned as Miss Universe on November 18, 2023 at the José Adolfo Pineda National Gymnasium at San Salvador, El Salvador. This is Nicaragua’s first victory in the 72 year history of the pageant.

Participants for the Miss Nicaragua contest must be at least 18. After participants are chosen, between 8 and 17 candidates are elected and represent a city or department. The majority of Miss Nicaragua winners have been from Managua.

Since 2023 the Miss Nicaragua pageant allow women married and mothers to join in the competition.

As well the transgender women are able to complete however since there is not any government mandate about legalisation the candidates are not allowed to join the national pageant.

Notes

Contestants

The runners-up and semi-finalists of the Miss Nicaragua pageant are sometimes sent to represent Nicaragua in other international beauty pageants. Winners include Sharon Amador, the first finalist in Miss Nicaragua 2006. Sharon won the Miss Ambar Mundial pageant in 2006. In 2010, the franchise for Miss Earth Nicaragua was awarded to Nuestra Belleza Nicaragua.[7] In 2023, Katherine Burgos Reyes, the first runner-up of Miss Nicaragua 2022 was appointed to compete at Miss Supranational 2023.

Dethroned

Miss Nicaragua 2013, Nastassja Bolívar was dethroned after competing at the Miss Universe 2013 in Moscow, Russia.[8]
