  1. Morocco and Tunisia finished level on points, and a play-off on neutral ground was played to decide the winner. Morocco advanced to the Final Round by winning a coin toss.
  2. The United Arab Republic withdrew at 2-2.
  3. Morocco and Tunisia drew 1-1 on aggregate. Morocco advanced by lot.
  4. Morocco won 3-2 on aggregate and qualified, but withdrew after refusing to play against Israel in the 1968 Summer Olympics final tournament in Group C. As a result, Ghana replaced Morocco.
  5. The aggregate score was tied 0–0, and a play-off on neutral ground was played to decide who would advance to the Final Round. Morocco advanced by winning a coin toss.
  6. Morocco withdrew from the competition before this match. Accordingly, FIFA awarded Zaire a 2–0 win on walkover.
  7. Morocco and Tunisia tied 2-2 on aggregate. Tunisia won 4-2 on penalties in the second leg to advance to the Second Round. This was the first penalty shootout in a World Cup match.[5]
