Natalie Janowski[1] (born April 25, 2004),[2] known professionally as Natalie Jane, is an American singer-songwriter.

Early Life

Natalie Jane was raised in Woodcliff Lake, New Jersey. With encouragement from family, including an aunt who is an opera singer, she learned to play the piano, began writing songs at the age of eight, and sang in musicals, for example playing Elle Woods in Legally Blonde.

She launched her professional music career while still in high school,[3] recording her first singles and auditioning for Season 18 of American Idol, where she made it through the first two rounds and into the Top 40.[4] She released her debut single “Love is the Devil" in August 2021, the summer before her senior year of high school. Over the next few months she independently released more tracks such as “Red Flag,” "Bloodline," and “Kind of Love,” the last of which was streamed more than seven million times on Spotify.[5]

Career

She was accepted to the Berklee College of Music but decided not to attend, and to pursue her professional career instead. Early in 2022 she began to work with co-writers and producers in Los Angeles. In July 2022 she signed a deal with 10K Projects/Capitol Records and released her major-label debut, “Mentally Cheating.”[6] As of November 2023 she had over 8.7 million followers on TikTok.[7]

She moved to Los Angeles[7] in September, released the single “Seven” and then, in November, released “AVA,” the latter co-produced by Doc Daniel, Pink Slip and Inverness.[8] "AVA" debuted on the official singles charts in the UK, Germany, The Netherlands and Norway.[9] To that point, "Mentally Cheating" and "Seven" combined had garnered more than 57 million streams.[10]

Her cover of Gnarls Barkley's "Crazy," also produced by Pink Slip,[11] came out in December 2022. At the end of the year, Distractify listed as one of its favorite TikTok trends of 2022 a "Crazy Riff Challenge" in which TikTok fans tried to "recreate the insane vocals of Natalie Jane."[12] In February 2023 Natalie Jane performed in Hollywood at the launch of the Whitney Houston Hotel by Whitney Houston's estate.[13] Her single "Seeing You With Other Girls" was released in March.[3] In March and April 2023 she was featured on the video channels of Cosmopolitan,[14] Seventeen,[15] and Elle.[16] On April 28 she released the single "I'm Her."[17] By that time she had amassed 6.8 million TikTok followers.[18] As of July 2023, when she released "I'm Good," a collaboration with charlieonnafriday, she had 2.4 million monthly listeners on Spotify.[19]

Concert tours

In 2023 Jane sold out a headline tour of Europe and the U.K., and toured the U.S. with Bishop Briggs and MisterWives.[20] To that point her music had been streamed almost 700 million times worldwide. Capitol Music announced a November 2023 release of her debut EP, with four new songs and six of her earlier singles.[21]

Natalie Jane lives in Los Angeles.
