Paolo Bürgi (born 4 September 1947, in Muralto) is a Swiss landscape architect.

Career

Paolo Bürgi graduated as a landscape architect from the Rapperswil School of Engineering (Hochschule für Technik Rapperswil) in 1975, winning first prize. His experience abroad has allowed him to get in touch with architect Luis Barragán, winner of Pritzker Prize in 1980. In 1977 he started his own practice and office of landscape architecture in Camorino, Switzerland.[1]

He teaches at Politecnico di Milano since 2015 and since 1997 he is an adjunct professor at the University of Pennsylvania School of Design and at IUAV University of Venice since 2003.

He has been visiting professor at the Mediterranea University of Reggio Calabria and at the Knowlton School of Architecture in Columbus, Ohio.

His works focuses particularly on projects on the open space and in relation with architecture, in both the public and private fields, in Switzerland and abroad.[1]

Paolo Bürgi is considered to be one of Europe's most acclaimed landscape architects.[2] Particularly known for creating minimalist landscape interventions that powerfully reveal the essence of a place. Bürgi looks beyond a site's physical boundaries and takes into account its cultural and topographical history.[2]

His work has been presented at several conferences and published in various countries, including: Europe, Korea, Chile, Argentina, China, Japan, Canada, United States.[3]
