Peter Gerard Antoniou (born 29 January 2007) is an Australian soccer player who plays as a defender for National Premier Leagues Victoria 2 club Melbourne City.

Early life

Antoniou was born and raised in Shepparton, Victoria to an Australian mother of Italian descent and a father of Greek-Cypriot descent.[2][3] His maternal grandfather was a farmer in the region where his mother was raised. Antoniou is the cousin of Josh Rachele, who became a professional Australian rules football player.[3] Antoniou began his soccer career with Bulleen Lions in their junior age group before signing for Melbourne City in 2020.[4]

International career

Antoniou received his first call-up to represent the Australian under-17 squad ahead of the 2023 U-17 Asian Cup qualifiers held in Shepparton.[5] He made his debut in the opening group match on 5 October 2022, scoring a brace in a 23–0 victory over Northern Mariana Islands.[6]

Having finished the qualification group stage in first place,[7] Antoniou was then named in the 23-man squad for Australia in the U-17 Asian Cup.[8] He started in the group matches against China and Tajikistan and featured off the bench in Australia's 3–1 defeat to Japan in the quarter finals.[9]
