Rubryka is a Ukrainian online media outlet specializing in Solutions Journalism and covering news and socio-political developments from Ukraine in Ukrainian, Russian, and English. It was founded in 2018 by its editor-in-chief Anastasia Rudenko, the only Solutions Journalism trainer in Ukraine, accredited by the Solutions Journalism Network.[1]
Media concept and focuses
Since 2020, Rubryka has been focusing on Solutions Journalism and the principles of constructive journalism,[2] focusing not only on the problems Ukrainians face but also on the solutions they find and how those work.[3] It is the only media outlet in Ukraine specializing in the Solutions Journalism approach, with its articles highlighted by the global Solutions Journalism aggregator Solutions Story Tracker.[4] In 2021, Rubryka launched its signature format for solutions stories.[5]
In Ukraine, Rubryka is recognized as a publication with high journalistic standards and a focus on media literacy.[6]
The publication is internationally acclaimed as a solutions media outlet[7][8] and has cooperated with such organizations and global promoters of Solutions Journalism as Transitions[9] and Solutions Journalism Network.[10]
The main focus of Rubryka's content is on solutions from Ukraine in the key fields: environmental protection, urban development and reconstruction of Ukraine, gender and social equality, investments, community development, and the responses to social challenges.[11] Rubryka also covers the news from Ukraine and provides analytics to the breaking developments there.
Media work during the Russian invasion of Ukraine
Since the start of the full-scale war in Ukraine on February 24, 2022, the publication has continued covering the stories of solutions responding to the problems caused by the war.[12][13] The publication has also launched an English-language podcast about solutions by Ukrainians to cope with the war challenges.[14] Rubryka keeps updating its readers about the current developments and news from Ukraine.[15][16]
