Sergio Gutiérrez Prieto (born 1982) is a Spanish politician of the Spanish Socialist Workers Party serving as Member of the Congress of Deputies since 2019. He previously served as a Member of the European Parliament from 2010 to 2019.

Political career

Member of the European Parliament, 2010–2019

In 2010, Gutiérrez Prieto replaced Magdalena Álvarez in the European Parliament, who resigned her seat to become vice-president of the European Investment Bank.[1] In parliament, he served as a Member of the Committee on the Internal Market and Consumer Protection and the Delegation for relations with the Palestinian Legislative Council[2] In addition to his committee assignments, he was a member of the European Parliament Intergroup on LGBT Rights.[3]

Member of the Spanish Parliament, 2019–present

Gutiérrez Prieto became a member of the Spanish Parliament in 20198. He has since been chairing the Committee on Foreign Affairs.

In addition to his committee assignments, Gutiérrez Prieto has been a member of the Portuguese delegation to the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe since 2022. In this capacity, she has been serving on the Committee on Legal Affairs and Human Rights (since 2019); the Sub-Committee on Artificial Intelligence and Human Rights (2020–2022); and the Sub-Committee on the implementation of judgments of the European Court of Human Rights (since 2020).[4]
