Shadows at the Door: The Podcast is a horror anthology podcast distributed by Realm Media,[2] created by Mark Nixon and David Ault of The NoSleep Podcast and The White Vault. The show typically features ghost stories, with a mixture of new pieces, including some written by Nixon, and public domain works such as those of M. R. James and often with a queer viewpoint.[3] Episodes consist of a full-cast audio drama productions followed by a conversation between Nixon and Ault in which they discuss the story, the characters and related themes.[4] The music is provided by Nico Vettese of We Talk of Dreams; Vettese's work on Shadows at the Door was a finalist in the 2020 AudioVerse Awards in the category for 'Instrumental Composition in a Production'.[5] In 2022 the podcast featured a three-episode adaptation of Oscar Wilde's The Picture of Dorian Gray, with Jake Benson as Dorian Gray.[6]
From the first season, Nixon has been showrunner, with Ault voicing the characters and Vettese creating the music. From the second season more voice actors were involved including Jake Benson, Ilana Charnelle, and Erika Sanderson.[7] In 2020 Professor Elemental appeared as a guest star.[8] In 2023, the show expanded its growing roster of guest stars including Farscape actor Lani Tupu,[9] Rahul Kohli,[10] Dave Fennoy,[11] and Sacha Dhawan.[12] The show regularly features guest writers such as Gemma Amor[13] and Midnight Mass, The Haunting of Bly Manor and The Fall of the House of Usher co-writer Jamie Flanagan.[14]
In 2023, Nixon and Ault appeared as guests at Luxcon Festival alongside authors Peter V. Brett and Peadar Ó Guilín.[15][16]
