The South Padre Island Convention Centre is a 45,000-square-foot (4,200 m2) facility located in downtown South Padre Island, Texas. It can accommodate groups from 20 to 2,500 in size. It hosts the annual South Padre Island Invitational, a college basketball tournament, and is the host for the 2011 NBA G-League Showcase.
Notable Events
Miss USA beauty pageant of the Miss Universe Organization used to be held from this venue in 1994, 1995 and 1996 editions. Bob Goen hosted the pageant in that period until he was replaced by George Hamilton with the pageant's relocated to Hirsch Memorial Coliseum from Shreveport, Louisiana.
Miss Teen USA beauty pageant (also from the Miss Universe Organization) arrived to this venue for the first time in 1997 with actor J. Eddie Peck served as host. It would relocated to Hirsch Memorial Coliseum from 1998 until 2000. After spent three years from Shreveport, Louisiana amid expected revenue, the pageant is moved back to this venue for 2001 and 2002 editions, the latter one will be the last Miss Universe Organization pageant ever to be aired on CBS. The following year, all of Miss Universe Organization pageants moved to NBC and Miss Teen USA is relocated to the Palm Springs Convention Center in downtown Palm Springs, California by hosted 2003, 2004 and 2006 pageant editions.
The 2016 South Padre Island kite festival was held here.[1]
